Stewardship and Sustainability

Stewardship is a critical theme of the work at Facilities, reflecting the importance of caring for a rich legacy while investing in the future of our campus.

Building Heritage

Lehigh’s campus and buildings are one of the great assets of the University, and our work recognizes and respects and this amazing resource.  We aim to reinvigorate our most historic buildings so they may better fulfill their contemporary function while making every effort to reflect their original character. We plan for our new buildings to ensure the best use of the University’s resources for the long term.

Our campus is no less a resource, with a variety of landscapes, from urban to rural, from formal gardens to the woodlands of South Mountain, that are central to the experience of Lehigh.  The hundreds of acres that make up the campus are critical to the local ecology, serving as home to an array of plant and animal species, and a recreational resource for the University community and the greater Lehigh Valley.

Resiliency and Sustainability

Facilities takes an approach to sustainability and resiliency that is distinctly Lehigh - reflecting our values, history, and aspirations as a University that looks to the future.  We work in concert with Lehigh’s Office of Sustainability to take initiative in leading-edge approaches to energy, materials, and operations.
