UGI will be completing projects across campus this summer. Work is underway with installation and site restoration estimated to be completed by August 10. Bookmark this page to check in for updates.
Project Overview
Mountaintop (map below, work area indicated in red) - UGI will be installing a new gas service line for the entire Mountaintop district, with work starting at the Central Plant Building and ending at Imbt Lab. There may be short term gas outages (at Iacocca Hall and Imbt Lab) which will be shared ahead of time to minimize any disruption to summer activities. Most of the new gas piping will be installed at or near roadways. UGI crews will allow one lane for travel on ATLSS Drive but may periodically close sections of Research Drive. UGI will likely have two crews in this area of campus.

Historic Core-Southside Gateway (Asa Packer) - UGI will have multiple crews in this area of campus this summer replacing sections of gas lines at approximately 20 different locations (see maps below, work areas indicated in red). There may be short term gas outages which will be shared prior to minimize any disruption to campus activities. Most of the new pipe installed at or near roadways will impact traffic. Work crews will allow for one lane for travel as much as possible, but closures may occur.

UGI Gas Line Work Update #3: Week of June 1 Impacts
As UGI continues its work on campus this week, here is what you can expect.
Work Reaching Completion this Week
Work at Taylor House (University Drive) is complete.
Work at Centennial I (University Drive) is nearing completion. Asphalt repair is planned for Tuesday June 2. Three UGI no-parking signs will remain until completion of this section.
The crew working at Johnson Hall (Sayre Drive) will complete work today and repair the asphalt on Tuesday June 2.
Work began Friday, May 29 at the Drinker Hall site (Quad Drive) and will continue for several days this week.
Work Getting Underway this Week
The crew at Johnson Hall will move east on Sayre Drive to work above Coppee Hall. A section of Sayre Drive will remain closed for most of the week. Bus stop closures will remain in effect until the work in this location is completed.
A crew will conduct soft digging (with a vacuum truck) in the grass along Asa Drive between Sinclair and Farrington. This will likely close the road or at least restrict traffic near the Sinclair parking spaces but it should only be for a day or two and likely later in the week.
Work will begin at Mountaintop near the Central Heating and Refrigeration (CH&R) plant at 114 Research Drive later in the week.
Please refer to the images below. We continue to encourage you to be mindful of workers as well as potential road and bus stop closures across these areas.
Update #2: Second UGI Crew Begins Work
Beginning Tuesday, May 26, the second crew will arrive on campus and begin work at Taylor House across University Drive from Johnson Hall. Refer to the map below for specific locations. This work is in addition to work occurring at Centennial I and Drinker Hall noted below.
Changes and Impacts
- University Drive Impact (Starting May 26): The crew will work in the lawn on the north side of Taylor House. The usual driving lane on University Drive may be closed in this area and traffic will be redirected into a temporary lane in the parking spaces near the south entrance to Johnson Hall. Please be alert to this lane shift.
- Sayre Drive Closure (Starting around June 1): Once the crew finishes at Taylor House, the crew will relocate to Sayre Drive just below Johnson Hall. Sayre Drive will be closed daily from 7:00 AM until 3:00 PM while they work at this location. The road will reopen at 3:00 PM each day.
- Bus Rerouting: For the duration of the Sayre Drive closure, the Williams Hall and Drown Hall bus stops will be closed. The Taylor House south bound bus stop will be temporarily relocated to the southwest corner near Singleton Hitch Maida. Signage will be posted to assist riders.
Update #1: Work Begins May 20th at Centennial I and Drinker
The project will begin at Centennial I. UGI’s team will mobilize there on May 20 and begin digging on May 21 with the expectation that they will work there for four days and then move on to Drinker Hall. University Drive may be periodically closed during this work, but vehicles can reach Rathbone Hall via Thomas Street if needed.
