UGI will be completing projects across campus this summer. Work is underway with installation and site restoration estimated to be completed by August 10. Bookmark this page to check in for updates.
Project Overview
Mountaintop (map below, work area indicated in red) - UGI will be installing a new gas service line for the entire Mountaintop district, with work starting at the Central Plant Building and ending at Imbt Lab. There may be short term gas outages (at Iacocca Hall and Imbt Lab) which will be shared ahead of time to minimize any disruption to summer activities. Most of the new gas piping will be installed at or near roadways. UGI crews will allow one lane for travel on ATLSS Drive but may periodically close sections of Research Drive. UGI will likely have two crews in this area of campus.

Historic Core-Southside Gateway (Asa Packer) - UGI will have multiple crews in this area of campus this summer replacing sections of gas lines at approximately 20 different locations (see maps below, work areas indicated in red). There may be short term gas outages which will be shared prior to minimize any disruption to campus activities. Most of the new pipe installed at or near roadways will impact traffic. Work crews will allow for one lane for travel as much as possible, but closures may occur.

Update #5 - Week of June 15
Ongoing Work
Sherman Fairchild Center: The crew on the north side of the Sherman Fairchild Center (Physics) is expected to finish in that location early in the week.
Road Impact: On Monday, June 15, there will be a lane closure on Taylor Street at Rauch Business Center for most of the day.
Webster Street/Whitaker Lab: Work will continue in this area until Wednesday.
Packer Avenue: A crew will be working on Packer Avenue from Webster Street to the east side of Mudd Building during the week.
Road Impact: Throughout the week be on the look out for lane closures on Packer Avenue.
Mountaintop: Two crews will work on Mountaintop this week. Be aware of potential road or lane closures along these routes.
A crew will start at the Mountaintop heating and cooling plant (CH&R) and work their way east along the southern section of Research Drive.
Another crew is expected to work along ATLSS Drive.

Update #4 - week of June 8
Completed Work
- UGI has concluded operations at Coppee Hall (on Sayre Drive) and Drinker.
Current Work
- Asa Drive/Sherman Fairchild Center: One crew is working on Asa Drive (Monday, 6/8) and will move to the north side of the Sherman Fairchild Center (Physics) on Tuesday, 6/9. This includes work in the parking lot behind the Packer Avenue central heating and cooling plant and the Chandler-Ullman driveway.
- Webster Street/Whitaker Lab: One crew, which began work on Friday, continues operations at Whitaker Lab on Webster Street this week.
- Research Drive/Mountaintop heating and cooling plant (CH&R): A crew is currently working at this site and will remain there for a few days.
- Path Marking: A team is currently marking the path for the new pipeline along Research Drive.
Upcoming Work
- Research Drive/Mountaintop Sawcutting: Starting Thursday and Friday, a crew will begin sawcutting the existing asphalt along the marked pipeline path, starting from the heating and cooling plant. This work will progress along the length of the planned pathway.
- Traffic Impacts: The sawcutting work will be conducted in the middle of the road, resulting in a moving road closure with flaggers present. Traffic along the southern side of the Research Drive loop may be diverted through an adjacent parking area during these operations.
- Upcoming Crew Shifts: Once one of the crews completes their designated tasks at Whitaker Lab or Sherman-Fairchild, work will move to the area near the Mudd Building.
We encourage you to be prepared and expect potential disruptions of traffic patterns as this work continues. Thank you for your patience.
